Diabetes is a metabolic disease in which blood
sugar or blood glucose, levels are too high, either because the body's
cells is not respond to insulin properly or because insulin production
is inadequate.
Insulin is a hormone that helps the glucose get into your
cells to give them energy. There are two type of diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes- your body does not produce
insulin
Type 2 diabetes- is the most common where your body does not
produce enough insulin for proper function. If left untreated it can
cause many complications. The complications may include death,
non-ketotic hyperosmolar coma, diabetes ketoacidosis, heart disease,
kidney failure, stroke, damage to the eye, foot ulcers and can also cause damage to the nerves. Having too much glucose in the body can cause serious
problems. Symptoms of diabetes include frequent urination, increased thirst,
increased hunger, weight gain, unusual weight loss, fatigue, slow
healing of cuts and bruises, itchy skin, male sexual dysfunction, blurry
vision, and headache. Type 1 diabetes patients need to follow a healthy eating
plan, do adequate exercise and take insulin. Type 2 diabetes patient need to eat
healthy foods, and test their blood glucose. Oral medication is needed
to control blood glucose level. Cardiovascular disease is much higher

diabetic patients should stop smoking. Exercise, weight control and
sticking to your meal plan can help control your diabetes. You should
