There are over 200 different types of cancer. Cancer harms the body when altered cells divide to form lumps or tissue called Tumors. Cancer is a group of diseases involving abnormal cell growth which invade and spread to the other parts of the body. Each cancer is different and classified by the type of cell they
affect. There are billions of living cells in the body, when cells of the body Start to grow out of control they may become cancerous. Normal cell growth is different from cancer cell growth. Cancer cells continue to grow and form new, abnormal cells instead of dying. In cancer cells, damaged DNA is not repaired, instead it gives rise to abnormal cells with abnormal DNA. DNA damage may also be caused by exposure to some environmental toxins. There are some signs and symptoms of cancer which include abnormal bleeding, unexplained weight loss, prolonged cough, lumps. These symptoms may indicate cancer. Risk factor for cancer include -Tobacco use -Over weight and obesity -Alcohol use -Physical inactivity -Environmental and occupational risk include Ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. The cancer causing agent include -Chemical carcinogens -Ionizing radiation -Viral and bacterial infections -Genetic cancer -Inherited Cancers -Hormonal changes -Immune system dysfunction. Common types of cancer include -Anal cancer -Bladder cancer -Bone cancer -Breast cancer -Liver cancer - Ovarian cancer -Vaginal cancer -Colon cancer -Cervical cancer -Colorectal cancer -Vulvar cancer -Thyroid cancer -Stomach cancer -Kidney cancer -Leukemia -Endometrial cancer -Lymphoma. Cancer can be prevented by not smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, drinking alcohol, eating plenty of vegetables, vaccination against infectious disease, fruit and grain, avoid eating too much processed and red meat and avoid too much sunlight exposure. Cancer is treated with combination of radiation therapy, surgery and chemotherapy. Cancer increases with age.
